Not so obvious, but somewhat related to the history of how Independence Day came about, is the 3 person chess game Sheldon has invented. The important part being his invention of 2 new chess pieces: the Old Women and the Serpent.
Leonard is curious of what they do.
Sheldon explains that the serpent slidders to an opposing players piece which is then considered poisoned and will die after 2 moves - unless - it gets to the old women who sucks out the poison turning her into the Grand Empress with a little white crown, combining the power of the Knight, Queen, and the Serpent.
Leonard thought that was pretty good.
"That's because its simple", smiled Sheldon.
