The Step Pyramid at Sakkara
The Tower of Babel ?
Hi all. The Step Pyramid at Sakkara is the first large pyramid ever built in Egypt. It's construction is said to have been carried out by Imhotep, a vizier of Djoser, Djoser is suggested to be the second pharaoh of what is referred to as The Third Dynasty. The Pyramid is said to measure:
mastaba's base (stage M1): 71.5 m x 71.5 m
height: 8.4 m
pyramid's base (stage P2): 109 m x 121 m (almost precisely 9 by 10)
height: 62.5 m (suggest here 63 meters to coincide with the 63 parts of The Eye of Horus)
perimeter wall: 544.9 m x 277.6 m (close to 32/64ths and please note here 544.9+277.6 = 822.5 and precisely 2 times the base of G2 in a 1 cubit to 1 meter ratio - total perimeter = 1645 meters = 64,763.78 inches = 5396.98 feet = 3140.82 cubits. Also note here the perimeter wall seems to match the perimeter of G2 in a 1 cubit to 1 meter ratio)
height of wall: 10.5 m (20.0 cubits)
The entire complex was once surrounded by an enclosure wall, that when complete, was about 600 yards (549m) long and 300 yards (274m) wide and rose to over 30 feet (9.1m). The wall is made of brick-size stones and is very impressive in its own right. Just the size alone would have made the wall an incredible project, but that is not the only thing impressive about this enclosure wall. The wall has projections and recesses that would have more than doubled the amount of stone and work required. The craftsmanship is very meticulous. The purpose of the wall is thought to have been one of symbolic nature, not of military protection, for the funerary complex inside. (NOTE: Using these measurements we get 1646 meters or 3142.73 cubits - Average of these two is 3141.77) (Also note here that it appears to be in the ratio of 1 to 2 so that the diagonal would be the square root of 5 and very reminiscent of the diagonal at Giza which is also nearly square root of 5 actually being the square root of 202 when 1 = 1417.5 cubits)

The Step Pyramid has been expanded three times but we will, for now, only concern ourselves with the finished product.
Okay let us review the story of "The Tower of Babel"
The Tower of Babel
Genesis 11
1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
12 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
19 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
20 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
Okay so now let us ask ourselves how in "heaven's name" did the people (insert here maybe Imhotep and Djoser) wish to attempt to build a tower unto heaven for it is in Heaven that God is said to reside and so in reality were they trying to build a tower to reach God or were they attempting to show a representation of God. But this was impossible ... or was it ? I have always wondered why the pyramids are never mentioned in The Bible. Not once. But perhaps the pyramids were. I am suggesting that The Step Pyramid at Sakkara is the symbolic Tower of Babel and that it was man's attempt not only to build a visual representation of God but also the entire creation and the entire universe. Most will scoff at this assertion but I feel it is based on a very logical sequence of evidence. Firstly we must examine the starting point, The Eye of Horus. I believe The Eye of Horus is a very ancient symbol which predates the building of The Step Pyramid but I am unsure. Regardless if it is not then The Eye of Horus would simply be seen to represent The Step Pyramid instead of the way I am going to present it.
The Eye of Horus
Clicking above takes you to the Wiki link but for this narrative we need only to know the numbers involved. Here they are. In a clever bit of number and picture symbolism The Ancient Egyptians managed to convey an eye using the hieroglyphs of a series of fractions. Quite neat really when you think about it. However can it ever be known which came first ? Did they draw the image and then assign the fractions to the parts or did the numbers or fractions predate the image or were they created at the same time ? It is really a fairly important question and I am going to go on the basis that the image came first and then the fractions were assigned (but it is not needed to be this way) Okay so "They" design an eye and then assign a series of fractions to it and this is what they give it.
Different parts of the Eye of Horus were thought to be used by the ancient Egyptians to represent one divided by the first six powers of two:[16]
The right side of the eye = 1/2
The pupil = 1/4
The eyebrow = 1/8
The left side of the eye = 1/16
The curved tail = 1/32
The teardrop = 1/64
These fractions add up to 63/64ths but what of the missing 1/64th ? Here is what one website suggests and writes:
That the Horus Eye series includes only six components and needs a magically obtained seventh part to make this divine unit complete was therefore not due to any lack of computing skills among the Pharaohic scribes. This system may be based on the same reasons why the common cubit was six palms long and needed a seventh palm to make it a royal and thus perfect or complete cubit, the measuring unit used for all sacred construction.
The magical power of the seventh part to complete a higher and holier unit than the common one composed of six parts may also be the reason why the later Hebrews, who relied on Egyptian mathematical methods and measuring concepts, had a week of six work days plus a seventh day belonging to God that made it complete and perfect.
These are quite good insights and we shall expand on them in later chapters. I agree wholeheartedly with this quote for yes one needs the missing 1/64th to make this divine or complete. So as is pointed out 6 fractions, adding up to 63/64th and the missing 1/64 to make it a divine something so what can we conclude from all of this and how can this possibly relate to The Step Pyramid at Sakkara and The Tower of Babel. The question one needs to ask oneself (and I did) is how could you hope to represent this concept in a form that if the written word was ever lost would always be there to remind people of this concept of God and it now must be obvious to you to protect and keep this concept alive for many millennia to come it would seem a good idea ( actually the only idea) would be to build a visual representation of these concepts in a form that would withstand the ravages of time and would be as simple as possible to understand and so it was that Imhotep wishing to preserve this knowledge chose to build a structure that would last "forever" . Well maybe not forever but at least until man had come full circle and had come back to his roots and once again truly understood who he was and who god was and what his place in all of this is. Can a simple Eye of Horus or a Step Pyramid give us this ? Yes that and a great deal more. But the prevailing idea is that Djoser built the Step Pyramid as a tomb for himself. I say absolutely preposterous. As I stated a long, long time ago there is no way men would build a monument this size to a man who would proclaim himself God, it just wouldn't happen. However what would or could motivate men to carry out a building project of this size was a fundamental belief in a true creation from a true God. And so the projects were begun. The Pyramids of Egypt, not projects to the pharaohs but projects and offerings to the true god and his creation and to man himself. To visually show Man, God, The Creation, The Universe, and the reason for it all. You are probably saying please .... Well the evidence is all there. The only question one needs to ask is why did they feel it suddenly became necessary to put this story in stone ... well that is a whole other chapter ...
Okay but let's return to the concepts we are discussing, namely The Eye of Horus and The Step Pyramid. Can this be shown to offer up the same story but simply in different formats . I believe they can and more importantly that they did.

So now quite clearly it can be seen that the missing piece is identical to the sixth piece or fraction so the sixth part or fraction equals the seventh part or fraction both being 1/64 This will turn out to be the key element of this visual story. However we must also now think of where else this story of creation could have been saved, It has been preserved in The Eye of Horus and it has been preserved in The Step Pyramid of Sakkara but where else might it be. It has also been saved in written works, The Bible and The Torah for the creation story that has been written in both of them is a perfect rendition of this concept in a written story like fashion. It is the word version of the visual version which they are based on. It is the ultimate word problem in math. It is similar to the old problems we faced where if Mary had 10 cents and Johnny had 4 cents how many of something worth 2 cents could they buy. Think about it. Did it really matter who Mary and Johnny were. Did we really need to know anything about them to solve the problem The answer is of course not and so The Bible and The Torah have been written in a similar fashion. The stories and the names and the accounts are all window dressing for the numbers. The numbers are the key, they are also everything ! Okay so now we have realized that only the numbers are really important so what are the numbers of the creation story in The Bible and The Torah and in Genesis 1. The numbers involved are simply Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 and Day 7 the Lord's day of rest. That is it ! That is all. The entire creation story told using 6 days and a 7th of rest. We can now see how and why as I add the numbers to our chart above
Day 7: This is the day of rest of The Lord but mathematically it equals the sum of Day 6 but even more importantly is what was created on Day 6. It was Man and so we see simply and elegantly that Man and God are identical. It is so obvious now how it can be said that God made man in his image. God made man on The Sixth Day of Creation and Day 6 is exactly equal to Day 7 ... God and Man are identical so it can be reasoned that Man ... IS GOD ! But further since God is Man and Man is God it can also be reasoned that Man created his own universe. Interesting thoughts that few, including me at this point, would dare to think about.
Okay, okay all very neat but how does this relate to The Tower of Babel and The Step Pyramid at Sakkara. first look again at this pyramid. This is a scale drawing I found on line which beautifully illustrates my idea. The first image please. If we let our minds wander we can imagine how truly amazing this complex must have been.

Okay so now let's bring it all back home ....
The story of God, The actual act of The Creation, and the final outcome of it all The Universe and Man and man's place in the order of things as told in three totally different spots and in three totally different visual ways. But all telling us the same beautiful and logical AND SIMPLE story
It is for all intents and proposes The Story of Life. We shall look for and at death in a future chapter.\
